A must have for anyone teaching writing to 4-8th graders! Even though I have been out of school for several years, I feel completely comfortable and confident when I use this book to teach writing to my daughter. There are 180 lessons (one for each day of the school year) that build on each other. It starts with learning what a noun is, then a proper noun and then you review those. Then it builds on that by teaching the student to find the subject of a sentence. Some other topics covered are adjectives, conjunctions, synonyms for "because", descriptive sentences, metaphors, dialogue, confusing words, homophones, dictionary skills and even poetry! And there is more. Each mini-lesson takes about 10 minutes to complete. I have used the lessons as a skill tester, extra practice, and review. It is flexible enough, however, that you could build a whole lesson off of the mini-lessons. My daughter enjoys these, especially the lessons where she gets to illustrate the concept and sentence she just created. The answer key in the back is easy to use. The author has been a teacher for over 20 years and uses this in her own classroom. I cannot say enough about this book. You will not be disappointed! Nadae - parent
The Daily Dose of Writing book provides concepts and skills that enhance my writing curriculum. The logically planned string of lessons build on each other. It is teacher friendly! My students are engaged and look forward to our daily dose of writing. Fran - 4th grade teacher
